Falla and Pellegrino take glory on Lahti
Maiken Caspersen Falla and Federico Pellegrino won gold at freestyle sprints on Lahti.
On a slow paced race Pellegrino beat Gleb Retivykh and surprisingly tame favorite Johannes Høsflot Klæbo on homestrech race. Sindre Bjørnstad Skar came fourth and best Finnish athlete Ristomatti Hakola came fifth.
Pellegrinos win was a real fight. The Italian cross-country skier broke his stick in semi-final and had to fight his way all the way up to second place from last place.
Dramatic scenes were witnessed on women race. Krista Pärmäkoski crashed with Victoria Carl on last turn and didn't qualify to semi-finals.
Norways Maiken Caspersen Falla comfortably won gold on women race. The fresh olympic winner Stina Nilsson came second and the qualification round winner Hanna Falk came third.
Aino-Kaisa Saarinen got eliminated on quarter-finals.
