According to preliminary entries, teams from 23 countries are coming to FIS Nordic Ski World Cup Lahti Ski Games event. Almost 300 athletes will arrive to Finland. All the top countries in the Nordic sports are included in all three sports, also Norway.

A total of 171 athletes have registered for Cross County, with the same number of other team members in the service team. According to preliminary information, the Norwegian Cross Country team, which has competed only in Ruka this season, is coming to Lahti, so Lahti will see a tough World Cup races in skiathlon and relays.

“Considering the global pandemic situation, a good number of teams are coming to Finland. We have been able to build a safe competition bubble for athletes, but also for the organizers and locals, so that we do not endanger the health safety of locals”, says Hannu Lehman, the Chief of Competition of Lahti Ski Games.

The top men skiers in X-Country Ski Team Finland, a quartet Iivo Niskanen, Ristomatti Hakola, Joni Mäki and Perttu Hyvärinen, are also testing their speed in Lahti.

Before Lahti, Niskanen will attend in national events in Finland, but in Lahti Ski Games he’s able to test his endurance before the World Championships in Oberstdorf.

“There will be good competitions in January, both domestically and internationally. There is Lahti Ski Games and Falun, where among other, there will be one additional distance race”, said Niskanen before announcing his withdrawal from the Tour de Ski.

According to the current situation, there are about 70 ski jumpers and 57 Nordic Combined athletes in pre-entries. Before Lahti, the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup will stop in Germany and Poland after Four Hills Tournament. The Nordic Combined athletes will compete in Val di Fiemme, Italy.

In Cross Country, 17 national teams are heading to Lahti, in Ski Jumping 16 and in Nordic Combined 12. Lahti Ski Games will be held in Lahti on January 22-24, 2021.
