Sustainability conference about responsibility in sports events and the future of winter sports. A world-class conference event will be built in the Lahti Sports and Fair Centre, in cooperation with the City of Lahti, the Ministry of Education and Culture, and Smash.

Lahti Ski Games plays an important role in promoting responsibility and sustainable development.
Without snow, there is no winter sports.

Sport Reimagined: Digital transformation and sustainability in Sports

Sebastian leads the Microsoft Sports practice, helping Clubs, Leagues and Federations to become a digital and sustainable business reimagining fan experiences and monetization models. He is the President of the Global Sports Innovation Center, participates in advisory boards, and is a guest speaker at universities, MBA programs and industry conferences.

Industrial Engineer and MBA in Buenos Aires, with 28 years in the IT industry. He has specialized in Digital marketing strategies, Business of entertainment, Media and sports and Product innovation at Harvard Business School, and Business Sustainability Management at University of Cambridge.

Michele Uva

UEFA’s Sustainability Strategy 2030 – UEFA’s roadmap to building a more sustainable future for European football

Michele Uva is UEFA Director of Football & Social Responsibility, appointed in January 2021. He has dedicated an entire career to professional sport in several contexts, disciplines and environments.

He has performed the role of CEO in sports organisations such as the Italian Football Association (FIGC), the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI), professional football clubs (Parma and Lazio), a basketball club (Lottomatica Roma) and volleyball clubs (Bologna, Treviso and Matera), as well as Deputy Commissioner in Italian Serie A football league.

Between 2017 and 2020 he was UEFA Vice-president, Chairman of Club Licensing Committee and member of several UEFA Committee: Finance, Club Competition SA, Strategic Steering, Professional Football Strategic, Women.

Author of six books on sport and football industry, he is currently a lecturer for several masters organized by international and Italian universities.

Riikka Rakic

IBU’s approach on environmental, economic and social sustainability

Riikka Rakic is currently the Head of Sustainability at the International Biathlon Union, where she also manages the implementation of the IBU’s strategic plan Target 26.

Prior to joining the IBU, she led the communications function at the International Ski Federation from 2005-2013. She then went on to implement an ISO 20121 certified sustainability program at the 2019 FIS Alpine Worlds and advised candidates for the 2022 and 2024 Games on topics related to sustainability and legacy.

From 2017 to 2020, Riikka led a FIS project known as “Get into Snow Sports” designed to promote snow sports in China.

Mike Laflin

The Sustainable Pillars of Sport

Mike is the founder and CEO of a new digital platform focused on driving sustainability through sport, called Global Sustainable Sport. Mike graduated from Exeter University in 1981 with a Combined Honours in Geography and Economics. He competed at National Level in 3000m steeplechase, ranking 17th in the UK in 1985. He started his professional career in sport in 1989 with the International Amateur Athletic Federations (now World Athletics) and worked as a technology consultant for five international sports federations (Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Sailing and Tennis) until 2007.

In 1991 he launched his own media information company called Sportcal, which became the leading provider of news and commercial information to the global sports industry. In 2011 he was appointed to act as a technology consultant to the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) to help them develop a sports information system for the Olympic Games which is now managed by the Olympic Channel.

He left Sportcal in February 2019 and now acts as a consultant to a wide variety of organisations, including UNESCO, who he is currently advising on their Fit for Life project. Global Sustainable Sport will provide a range of services and products to help support sports organisations in the development of their sustainability strategies.

Ville Uusitalo

Climate Impacts and Possibilities for Reductions in Winter Sports

Ville Uusitalo is an associate professor at the Sustainability Change research group of the LUT University.

His research focuses especially on reducing environmental impacts of products, systems and organizations. He has done and supervised several studies related to climate impacts of sports.
